Take a moment to step outside, stand or sit quietly, and allow the surrounding sounds to fill you. No matter what time you step out, the forest is never truly asleep.
There is always some type of wildlife that is awake and moving around. While most people use nature to get away from the noisiness of daily life, there is a sense of peace in the natural rhythms and tones found outside. Creating a type of chorus that brings a sense of tranquility that cannot be made with things made by humans.

Anytime life has become too overwhelming, taking a step outside and listening to the animals creates an immediate wave of relief over me. The birds, squirrels,
chipmunks, grasshoppers, crickets, etc. all come together to create a song only nature can. Allowing me to reground myself and take back some control when everything feels out of control. During the day, I can hear the birds chirping back and forth and the
squirrels jumping from branch to branch along the tree lines where the forest in my backyard begins.
Creating a rhythm through their song and movements that I am easily able to follow and fall into their trance.
As night approaches and comes, the forest’s music shifts from one set of band members into another set. That is when the crickets, frogs, and other nocturnal animals come out, creating their own chorus. Even though you would think being outside would
be quite scary, the way the animals fill the night is actually quite lively yet peaceful at the same time. I could just sit out there and listen all night, allowing the sounds of nature to take me over.

Everyone should take a moment and listen to the music the forest is making, reground themselves, and find peace. Each animal, each insect has their own type of music that together creates a chorus anyone can fall into a trance in. Even the rustling of the wind and the ambient sounds around add to the animals’ music. Creating a natural concert that no man can create, thus quieting the mind and leaving a peaceful
feeling behind.

One response to “The Music of a Forest”
There is a music of the forest. One that it is worth hearing to reconnect with the sounds of the natural world. There is also a deep silence in the forest. Between the morning and late afternoon there is often a period when not a sound can be heard at all. No bird calls, no animal movements, perhaps no rustling wind or water in a stream. Only silence. Full, complete and immersive.
