Practice Community Rewilding

What is Community Rewilding?

Community Rewilding is an approach that re-establishes the connection between local environments and the people who live there. Community Rewilding counterbalances modern challenges through scalable rewilding efforts that support nature and people in homes, schools, churches, parks, and more. Community Rewilding promotes sovereignty by shifting power back to local people who steward local environments and maximize local resources. Combining Conservation Rewilding and Human Rewilding, Community Rewilding in practice works to Rewild Land, restore nature, and Rewild Self, transform people, creating a physical, social, and spiritual change in our daily lives.

Rewild Your Land

What does this mean?

Conservation Rewilding

Restoring Nature

Rewild Your Land is the physical transformation of space into a welcoming environment for nature that enhances local biodiversity and creates a scenario where maximum ecosystem services and environmental benefits are achieved for stronger local environments.

Whether your rewilding action is small scale or large scale, any net gain of wilding means positive change and the promotion of sovereignty: resilience & self-sufficiency. We can rewild New Jersey by supporting nature on the land in urban, suburban, and rural communities- weaving a tapestry of wilded spaces over a highly developed landscape- creating local and global impact.

Key Principles

  • Increase biodiversity & ecosystem services.
  • Create habitat connectivity.
  • Coexistence with wildlife.
  • Protect wild lands.

Quick Actions

  • Transform your property in small or large areas by including native plants, pollinator plants, native trees, ground covering plants, & more.
  • Reduce or eliminate your use of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers on your property.
  • Change your views on norms including lawn culture, exclusion of nature, fear of wildlife, & apathy towards nature.
  • Steward and protect existing trees on your property.
  • Welcome wildlife to your property by allowing for habitat space by adding leaf litter in areas, tree stumps and logs, water features, bats boxes, bird houses, insect houses, and more.
  • Remove invasive plants from your property and in your community.
