About the Founder

Hello! My name is Fran and I am the Founder of Rewild New Jersey Community Cooperative. Welcome to Rewild New Jersey! I am so excited to finally be sharing the wonderful world of rewilding with all of the citizens of the Garden State.
I am an authentic person. Perhaps I could be considered wild, alternative, a renegade. I strive to enjoy life to the fullest. I fight every day to honor my child self, keep my ambitions strong, my mind open, and my spirit bright. I find myself feeling limited, isolated, and controlled by many things in our modern world. As a form of personal rebellion, I have turned to rewilding- exploring my sense of humanity and my connection to local nature.
I consider myself to be a Geographer, Educator, Advocate, and Community Leader. I am a unifier and reformist- bridging the gap between communities and working to create new thinking. I believe that the systems that we live in are functionally good, however, we need to continually transform, adapt, and take responsibility for our future in a pragmatic way. We can have it all- we just need to work to get it.
I am a lifelong New Jersey native! I am originally from North Jersey and I now live in South Jersey. I am a dual citizen! I am a part of the lands and communities of New Jersey, I understand it, and so it is my stage for contributing positivity to the world.
I am a Professor at Rowan University teaching in the Department of Geography, Planning, & Sustainability. Starting in 2022, I became a PhD Candidate of Sustainability Education at Prescott College. Both my teaching and PhD coursework led me to studying the discipline of community rewilding and, soon after, informed the development of RNJCC.
The rewilding discipline as a whole, including the branches of conservation, human, and community rewilding, is common sense, hopeful, nature first, and back to basics. The past is in our future- rewilding will provide us with what we need.
I look forward to what Rewild NJ will bring to my life and the lives of others. Join me in transforming the 21st Century! Let’s get wild New Jersey!
It has taken me some time to be able to convey why I pursued founding Rewild NJ. Upon reflection, I have realized that my greatest motivations include building community, reforming the norms that hold us back, sharing creative ideas, empowering results for nature and people, and fighting for a life full of spirit and meaning. I seek to connect with people who understand the duality of wanting for a wilder, more authentic way of life while facing the modern entanglements that we experience every day. It represents what I am looking for in my life- and what I know many of you are looking as well.
I believe that Community Rewilding is the nexus between Conservation Rewilding and Human Rewilding. This is a revolutionary act that addresses modern complexity by building back sovereignty and promoting localization. After decades of addressing global environmental problems with macro, global solutions, Community Rewilding has emerged to focus power and change on the micro, local level. This discipline works to redefine environmentalism because it links our connection to local environments and their resources with our own empowerment. It represents what I am looking for in my life- and what I know many of you are looking as well.
After decades of addressing global environmental problems with macro solutions, Community Rewilding is emerging due to a need to reimagine our world by focusing power and change on the micro level. Community Rewilding provides us with natural solutions for modern problems and empowers us to reach the change that we seek. This is not a cause- it is a physical, social, and spiritual transformation in our daily lives. If we rewild, we will directly see the results that we are creating.
I have built this vision, this website, this organization on my own with the help of inspirations and knowledge of the people who have supported me. I believe that there is so much more possible for our State, nation, and our world. My name is Francesca. I am a PhD Candidate of Sustainability Education, Geographer, Educator, Advocate, and the Founder of Rewild New Jersey Community Cooperative. The work of RNJCC is part of my personal rewilding journey, my practice of the application of community rewilding, and my current PhD coursework. With New Jersey as my stage, I hope to contribute to the discipline of community rewilding by foraging new ideas, strategies, and framework. Together, we will transform the 21st Century. Let’s get a little wild New Jersey.

In our modern world we experience unrelenting influence from change, globalization, and technology. It sometimes feels like we have no control at all. We have built a comfortable, convenient, safe world over time- but what have we lost in the process? We are being robbed of our sovereignty, and in that, our resilience and self-sufficiency. These factors have dominated how we live and how we relate to the world around us. As a form of personal rebellion and counterbalance, I have turned to community rewilding.
