In our modern world we experience unrelenting influence from change, globalization, and technology. It sometimes feels like we have no control at all. We have built a comfortable, convenient, safe world over time- but what have we lost in the process? We are being robbed of our sovereignty, and in that, our resilience and self-sufficiency. These factors have dominated how we live and how we relate to the world around us. As a form of personal rebellion and counterbalance, I have turned to community rewilding.
I believe that Community Rewilding is the nexus between Conservation Rewilding and Human Rewilding. This is a revolutionary act that addresses modern complexity by building back sovereignty and promoting localization. After decades of addressing global environmental problems with macro, global solutions, Community Rewilding has emerged to focus power and change on the micro, local level. This discipline works to redefine environmentalism because it links our connection to local environments and their resources with our own empowerment. It represents what I am looking for in my life- and what I know many of you are looking as well.
It has taken me some time to be able to convey why I pursued founding Rewild NJ. Upon reflection, I have realized that my greatest motivations include building community, reforming the norms that hold us back, sharing creative ideas, empowering results for nature and people, and fighting for a life full of spirit and meaning. I seek to connect with people who understand the duality of wanting for a wilder, more authentic way of life while facing the modern entanglements that we experience every day.
With New Jersey as my stage, our stage, I hope to utilize the work of our movement to contribute to the discipline of community rewilding. I hope to learn and change on my own rewilding journey. I look forward to what Rewild NJ will bring to my life and the lives of others.
